Prep Time

It's December 31st. The world looks brand new outside of my window, blanketed in snow and still lit with Christmas lights up and down the street. Never in my life have I cared less about having plans for New Years Eve. In fact, I've been actively avoiding any and all offers of midnight festivities laced with sequins, booze, and countdowns. Covid cases are surging once again, and after two weeks of house guests and Christmas merriment, additional social gatherings sound far less appealing than prepping for my next endeavor -- health and wellness in 2022.

Tomorrow I start my weight loss journey, which means today I get to start doing a little prep. I just plugged in my fake FitBit (or as my husband calls it, my BitFit) to charge. I started making grocery lists for meal prep. My meals themselves are planned out from Monday - Wednesday. I even Windexed my scale to make sure all that extra dust that has settled on it won't add any additional ounces. Tomorrow morning I do my first official weigh-in and take my "before" pictures. I am filled with all the hope and confidence of a woman who is ready for change and has the magic of a new calendar year to back me up. I love New Years so much. How fabulous that we have a chance to reset and reinvent once a year. What a gift. While I'm fully aware that most New Years resolutions are abandoned by February, there is always that opportunity to start again and become a better version of yourself.

There is so much to look forward to in 2022. Why, even on January 3, I'm going to go see Hamilton for the first time, something I've wanted to do since memorizing the lyrics on Spotify 4 years ago. In March I'm going to California to see family, in June we're flying to Mexico. My near impossible semester is behind me, and I've also resolved to stop taking on so many teaching and service responsibilities in 2022. My son drives now, lightening up my morning load, and my daughter is finally vaccinated. Ashton is in the best possible preschool, right across the parking lot from my office. There is much to be thankful for.

2022, I'm ready for you. Let's do this.
