Sick Day

"I cannot go to school today," said Little Peggy Ann McKay. I have the measles and the mumps, a gash, a rash, and purple bumps...

One of my favorite books ever

I cannot go to work today because I'm sick. Like real, I have a doctor's note sick. Part of me is a little disappointed because I have not been sick a single day since moving to Utah. For those of us that are counting, that is a full 15 months without fever, coughing, sneezing, runny noses, and mouth-breathing from congestion.

I took my good health as a sign that I was meant to be here. Like my body found cosmic balance in this dry air and high elevation, and physically I was in the right place. I watched as my sick leave piled higher and higher at work and started to think of it as my 401-leave that would never be touched but was still nice to know it was there.

And then yesterday I woke up with a fever, chills, and body aches that knocked me off my feet. But for one trip to the doctor's office, I have been in bed for two days.

My friend told me you're not a real blogger if you can't post gross pictures of yourself on your blog. This is me, sick in bed.

The amazing thing is that I have still managed to get a tremendous amount of work done. I'm not going anywhere so I am super responsive to email. Yesterday, I managed to knock out a PowerPoint, a conference call, updated our library website in Dreamweaver, sent out archived recordings of our Tuesday webinar, and secured permissions for exhibits. Not a bad work day from the stinky comfort of my own sickbed. And since I was technically out on sick leave, I felt like everything I did was net positive.

And I took two naps to boot.
Today my antibiotics have started to kick in, and I am feeling a whole lot better. This is the day of being sick that actually feels a little like a vacation because you're not miserable but not really well enough to go about your normal life either. In bed I'm like, "I feel fine!" and then I get up to do something and my legs go all wobbly.

Plus I can wisely rationalize that it's better to work from my bed one more day to make sure I don't get any worse. Or at least that's what my co-workers say.

I just wish there were some Netflix series that I had been waiting to marathon so had something to do in between work and naps. Without that forethought, I ended up picking the stupidest stuff to watch yesterday. If you get tempted to watch "Pretty Ugly People" on Netflix, don't do it. I want that two hours of my life back.

So here is my plea from my sickbed. If there is a movie or TV series on Netflix that is good, please share in the next hour or so. I cannot watch 24 hours of cat videos, bad movies, and ALS Ice Bucket challenges (so two weeks ago). I've seen all the episodes of Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, but not much else. One, two, three...go!
